The International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) recognized top student scientists for their contributions to IAGLR and Great Lakes science. The following awards were announced at the association’s awards ceremony, held online Wednesday afternoon.

Please join us for our Annual Business Meeting, an overview of the association led by President Andrew Bramburger, on Wednesday, June 15 from 2:30–4 p.m. EDT. This will be followed by an awards ceremony honoring our 2022 scholarship and awards recipients from 4:10–5 p.m. EDT. SOLM22 Call for Presenters & Associated Events

You're invited to submit a presentation or associated event for the 2022 State of Lake Michigan Conference.The deadline for submissions is Thursday, June30. The conference will take place in Traverse City, Michigan, October 24-26, 2022. The event will include the Great Lakes Beach Association associated meeting. You may submit a presentation for the GLBA meeting by selecting the "Great Lakes Beach Association" session when you submit. Please review the list of sessions before submitting. We enourage you to submit your abstract to a specific session, but also welcome general contributions.

Announcing inaugural IAGLR Large Lake Champion Award recipients

The International Association for Great Lakes Research is proud to announce the debut of the IAGLR Large Lake Champion Award, which recognizes and honors individuals whose work has made significant contributions to sharing the social, economic, and ecological understanding of large lakes of the world. IAGLR looks to pay tribute to the luminaries and rising voices for large lakes that will help shape the association for years to come and pave the way for IAGLR’s future. In the award's inaugural year, we recognize the following IAGLR Large Lake Champions: Patricia Chow-Fraser, Catherine Febria, Abraham Francis, Jim Olson, and Ali Shakoor.

Student Travel Awards available

The Great Lakes Fishery Commission Travel Award promotes academic excellence by providing funds to students to present graduate research results at scientific conferences. Two travel awards will be provided to M.Sc. or Ph.D. students whose research is likely to make a significant contribution to understanding Great Lakes aquatic ecology and fishery science. Full-time M.Sc. or Ph.D. students whose research is relevant to the Great Lakes and who have not previously received this award are eligible. Applicants may seek funds (up to U.S.$1,500 per award) to attend and present their research at any conference. (To maximize opportunities in 2022, both virtual and in-person participation are eligible for sponsorship.) Recipients will be notified in mid-May, 2022. IAGLR | JASM 2022 Student Travel Awards

The IAGLR Student Travel Award helps to defray the travel cost for IAGLR student members attending IAGLR | JASM 2022, May 14-20, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 29. In addition, students outside the United States and Canada are eligible for an IAGLR International Travel Award. The deadline is Friday, March 18.

The JASM Program Committee has decided to extend the abstract deadline to 11:59 PM on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022. Submissions are still being accepted, and people who already have submitted can still edit their abstracts.
