IAGLR20 in Winnipeg canceled

March 21, 2020

The IAGLR Board of Directors has decided to cancel the physical Conference on Great Lakes Research this June in Winnipeg. We understand that this is disappointing news, but I doubt it comes as a surprise to any of you in light of the growing outbreak in the United States and Canada.

Connecting members is a core part of IAGLR’s mission. Therefore, the board is working with our conference team to assess the feasibility of holding the conference, in some format, through a virtual delivery platform. Please look for a short survey in the next few days containing questions that will allow us to determine member interest in holding a virtual meeting and to solicit your thoughts and ideas on format.

I want to thank you for your patience as we consider all possible options to minimize the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak to the association and our members. On behalf of the board, I also want to extend a sincere thank you to the Winnipeg planning team for their dedication and hard work in planning for the conference over the past year.

We will, of course, be posting periodic updates to the website and via social media as we move forward.

I wish you all the best in health and safety.

Sincerely,

Paul Sibley
IAGLR President

COVID-19 and IAGLR20

March 13, 2020

As we draw closer to our annual meeting in Winnipeg (June 8-12), I want to assure you that the IAGLR board has been monitoring the COVID-19 situation. At this time, we remain optimistic that the conference will proceed as scheduled and we are continuing with conference planning, including the opening of registration toward the end of March. While we encourage your preparations for IAGLR20, we do advise that you temporarily defer travel arrangements while we learn more about responses to the outbreak from government, business, and academia that will aid us in our decision-making. We recognize that this is a rapidly evolving, unprecedented, and unfortunate situation and greatly appreciate your patience.  We will continue to post announcements on the website.

Sincerely,

Paul Sibley
IAGLR President
