The IAGLR Board of Directors is responsible for managing all the affairs of the association, including the Journal of Great Lakes Research. The board meets three times each year and consists of at least nine members: at least three are from Canada and at least three are from the United States, with one of each of the national members being a student member of the association. In additional, an international board member also serves on the board. This member represents a nation other than the United States of Canada, including Tribal and First Nations. Board members are elected for three-year terms, and student board members for two-year terms.
The International Association for Great Lakes Research is a U.S. 501(c)(3) and Canadian nonprofit organization.
