Description

The Consortium of Aquatic Science Societies (CASS) is seeking an individual experienced in website design to lead and implement the redesign of its website, aquaticsocieties.org  This short-term, paid contract offers an opportunity to showcase the group’s work, highlight the benefits of society membership and involvement, and promote aquatic science to an international community through building an engaging and functional web presence. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and building WordPress sites and knowledge of modern design and accessibility principles. Early career researchers or web design professionals, students, and other professionals with the necessary qualifications are encouraged to apply.

About CASS

The Consortium of Aquatic Science Societies (CASS) comprises nine groups representing various interests within the aquatic science realm. Our collective membership totals almost 20,000 individuals that span the private sector, academia and various tribal, state, and federal agencies. The CASS organizations represent professionals who combine deep subject-matter expertise, a commitment to independent objectivity, and the critical review of environmental information, along with a passion for the natural places and resources that form the foundation of American greatness. Through its members, CASS works to cohesively present the best available science surrounding aquatic resources, as well as participate in science-based discussions on the public policy issues that affect these resources.

Scope of Work

The CASS website is hosted by one of its member societies, the American Fisheries Society (AFS) on WordPress with an integrated website builder plugin Elementor. Historically, it was used as an inward facing site for administrative purposes. However, there is a growing need for the CASS website to be a public facing resource, showcasing the work of CASS and promoting the aquatic sciences to a diverse audience including students, aquatic science professionals, and the broader public.

The scope of work includes:

  1. Website Redesign – Evaluate the current website and identify and implement a new WordPress theme which will be both functional and customized to reTect the organization’s existing branding, contact information, social media links, calendar of events, and other relevant information.
  2. Site Restructuring – Create new pages and restructure the website navigation in accordance with new pages and design
  3. Basic SEO and Implementation
  4. Configure and Implement Google Analytics, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and Terms of Use pages.
  5. Conducting a training session with CASS representatives on basic functioning and maintenance of the website.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience building and designing websites on WordPress
  • Knowledge of modern web design, accessibility, and SEO principles and best practices
  • Ability to work independently and meet project milestones with minimal oversight
  • Strong time management and communication skills
  • Ability to incorporate stakeholder feedback as the project progresses
  • Background in or knowledge of aquatic science or another science Feld is a plus

Contract Details and Stipend

  • This contract is short-term and project based. The successful candidate will work with project
  • managers to devise a feasible timeline outlining major milestones and regular check-ins
  • Position is fully remote
  • There is a maximum budget of $4,000 USD for this project
