The Director is accountable for the overall management of the scientific/technical programs, human resources and financial resources and facilities of the bi-nationally staffed and funded Great Lakes regional office (GLRO). This includes but is not limited to oversight of the office’s professional and support staff; development and submission of a draft office budget for Commission approval; assurance that the operations of the office are within budget and comply with relevant Canadian and US laws and regulations; and, serving as the senior contact on behalf of the GLRO in engagements with governments, stakeholders, rightsholders and the public. The basic purpose of the GLRO is to provide support to the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA) boards and to the Commission. GLRO is one of the IJC’s three offices and its Director is under the supervision of the Commission. While the mandate of the GLRO is focused on the Great Lakes pursuant to the GLWQA, its priorities are integrated into the broader IJC mandate and priorities, delivery of which is overseen by the Secretaries of the United States and of the Canadian Sections of the IJC.
