IDEA+ Presenter Scholarship

The IDEA+ Presenter Scholarship aims to broaden participation in IAGLR to welcome and involve people from historically marginalized communities. Requests may be made by those who plan to deliver a talk at the annual Conference on Great Lakes Research, contingent upon acceptance of their abstract by the conference's program committee.


Purpose

The IAGLR Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility+ (IDEA+) Presenter Scholarship is awarded annually to broaden participation in IAGLR to welcome and involve people from historically marginalized communities. Specifically, this scholarship supports presenters who add to the diversity of perspectives shared at the IAGLR annual conference from the interface of large lake science, management, education, communication, policy, and community.

Number and Value of Awards

  • Up to two scholarships *
  • US $2,000 each *
  • Complimentary IAGLR membership (includes electronic subscription to the Journal of Great Lakes Research)

* Number and value depends on funds available and is at the discretion of the Awards Committee.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must

  • not have received the award previously
  • not be a current member of the IAGLR Board of Directors or part of a current board member's immediate family (parents, children, spouse, siblings)

Application Elements

The application must be submitted online. In addition to your name, contact information, IAGLR member status, and affiliation, be prepared to submit the following:

  • Brief title and extended abstract of research
  • Statement of relevance highlighting contributions to the diversity of the interface of large lake science, management, education, communication, policy, and community
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae (PDF)

Criteria for Judging

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • How the proposal meets the spirit of integrating aspects of large lake science, management, education, communication, policy, outreach, and community
  • Abstract for the proposed presentation
  • Relevance of the proposal to the scholarship’s goals
  • Involvement in activities related to large lake issues

Terms and Conditions

The IDEA+ Presenter Scholarship will be awarded with the recipient’s prior understanding and acknowledgement that they will present their supported research at IAGLR's annual Conference on Great Lakes Research.
