With the public comment period for the proposed WOTUS rule on the horizon, IAGLR joins other aquatic societies to request an extension of this period from 60 to 200 days, as well as for additional public hearings to be held. Nine member societies of the Consortium of Aquatic Science Societies made the request to EPA and the U.S Army Corps of Engineers today, noting "60 days is not sufficient to allow for an adequate, scientifically defensible review, as called for by the complexity and scope of the proposed rule. Additionally, a robust and geographically extensive public meeting program on a par with that of the 2015 Clean Water Rule is important in order to ensure that stakeholder concerns are identified and addressed, and that there is sufficient time for the publicto conduct a thorough and science-based review of the proposed rule."
