Zanko Zandsalimi is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in civil engineering at the University of Virginia, having embarked on this academic journey in fall 2023. With a solid foundation in water engineering from his bachelor's and a master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on water engineering and hydraulic structures from Tarbiat Modares University in Iran, Zanko has dedicated his studies to addressing complex issues in water resource management and infrastructure resilience. His master's thesis, titled "Estimating the Risk of Loss of Life due to Urban Flood Using 1D/2D Hydraulic Models," demonstrated his adeptness at using advanced hydraulic models for critical assessments in urban flood risk management. Following his master's, Zanko joined the Research Institute of Water Engineering and Management at Tarbiat Modares University as a researcher. There, he expanded his expertise into hydrology, the application of remote sensing and geographic information systems in hydrology and water resource management, and furthered his work in flood risk assessment. This experience broadened his research skills and deepened his understanding of the challenges in water engineering.
