Cody Sheik is an associate professor at the Large Lakes Observatory at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He is a microbial ecologist specializing in the diversity and function of microorganisms in freshwater ecosystems. His lab uses molecular tools alongside traditional microbial techniques to explore fundamental questions about present and past microbial life within cyanobacterial blooms, the water column, and sediments across the Laurentian Great Lakes. His lab is also interested in microbial interactions and functions, like nitrogen fixation, that influence cyanobacterial blooms’ life cycle and potential toxicity. Sheik’s tenure home is within the biology department.
