Robert Michael McKay

McKay

R. Michael McKay serves as director and professor at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research at the University of Windsor. He has been active in Great Lakes research for over 25 years working in both Canada and the U.S. and extended ongoing work in environmental surveillance of cyanoHABs in large lakes to wastewater surveillance at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. McKay serves as a member of the Great Lakes HABs Collaborative steering committee and the International Joint Commission’s Science Advisory Board where he serves as a member of several work groups including winter science and early warning system, and he provides cross-board support to the Great Lakes Microbial Water Quality Assessment. He also serves as a member on binational boards informing the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, notably the Annex 4 Lake Erie Adaptive Management Task Team, the Annex 4 HABs Working Group, and as a member of the Annex 10 Cooperative Science and Monitoring Initiative Lake Erie planning team. Since 2013 he has served as an associate editor with the Journal of Great Lakes Research and never misses the opportunity to participate in the annual IAGLR Defy Cup Challenge.
