IAGLR Lifetime Achievement Award

Since 2005, IAGLR has awarded its Lifetime Achievement Award to an individual who has made important and continued contributions to the field of large lake research over a period of 20 years or more. Recipients are nominated by IAGLR members. The winner is announced at the annual Conference on Great Lakes Research and encouraged to attend.


Purpose

The IAGLR Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes important and continued contributions to the field of large lake research over a period of 20 years or more.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, the nominee should meet the following requirements:

  • Have at least 20 years of professional experience (beyond their terminal degree) in the field of ecology, fisheries biology, limnology, environmental engineering, or resource management on any of the world’s large lakes, including North American Great Lakes, African Great Lakes, or others
  • Has not previously received the award
  • Membership in IAGLR is preferred

We encourage nominations of people from diverse identities perspectives, and experiences.

Nomination Package

Your nomination package should include the following:

  • A nomination letter from an IAGLR member, clearly indicating how the nominee has made a notable impact on large lake research in the key areas of contribution, originality, and impact (two pages)
  • The nominee’s curriculum vitae or resume
  • Minimum of three letters of support, preferably from IAGLR members

Criteria for Judging

Nominees are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Contribution: Sustained and substantial theoretical, experimental, or field research
  • Originality: Outstanding body of original work and reporting on unique datasets
  • Impact: Long-term influence on research in a specific sub discipline
