State of Lake Ontario Conference

The State of Lake Ontario Conference will be held online March 9–11, 2021. Hosted by the International Association for Great Lakes Research, the conference will feature concurrent sessions, plenaries, and discussions. View the program for details.


The event is the fourth in an annual series of State of Lake conferences aimed at promoting collaborations between the science and policy communities—particularly lake-specific research, management, education, and nonprofit organizations—to broaden the discussion and provide diverse interaction among stakeholders.

Lake Ontario in the spotlight March 9–11

Lake Ontario will take center stage this week, when scientists, natural resource managers, and others gather online for the 2021 State of Lake Ontario Conference (SOLO21). The conference will feature daily speakers and discussions, as well as more than 120 oral and poster presentations on topics such as climate change and shoreline resiliency, plastic pollution, Indigenous Peoples’ science, wetlands, native fish restoration, contaminants, harmful algal blooms, and invasive species.

Tribal and First Nation conference participation encouraged

With generous support from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, IAGLR is pleased to waive registration fees for Tribal and First Nation attendees in need of financial assistance to attend the 2021 State of Lake Ontario.  Funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Register today!

SOLO 2021 Zoom open houses

February 28, 2021

All SOLO 2021 registered attendees, session chairs and presenters are invited to attend an online training session this week, hosted by Michigan Tech. Information will be emailed on Monday, March 1. Each sessions is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on the following days:

  • Tuesday: Zoom meeting procedures for sessions chairs, speakers, and discussion
  • Wednesday: Zoom webinar procedures for panelists, introductory speakers, chairs; Q&A 
  • Thursday : No scheduled content, but will be open to any remaining questions or people who were unable to attend previous sessions.
