Student members are integral to the success of IAGLR and the future of large lakes research. To recognize their achievements and encourage involvement, we present several scholarships to outstanding student researchers each year. In addition, we award travel funds to many students to help defray costs of conference attendance. We also hold events for students at the annual conference.

At the Conference

Coastal Society Workshop - Monday

Students and early career professionals can learn valuable skills and information about jobs in the coastal zone in this full-day workshop. Participants must register.

Graduate Student Mixer - Tuesday

Enjoy a chance to meet and network with other grad students on Tuesday evening, 9-11, at Bill Gray's Tap Room, 4647 South Lake Rd., Brockport, NY. For students only!

SciComm Skills Cafe - Wednesday

This is your opportunity to grow and try new things in a fun and supportive setting. Practice a variety of skills to become more effective at communicating the “so what” of your research to lay - but key - audiences. Before the Conference

Each year, IAGLR honors the best student presentations given at the Conference on Great Lakes Research. The awards consist of a cash prize and a complimentary one-year membership to IAGLR, which includes a subscription to the Journal of Great Lakes Research. Students may indicate their interest in entering the competition during abstract submission. An additional application is also required.

IAGLR-OMNR Student Travel Award

The IAGLR-OMNR Student Travel Award is designed to promote student member attendance at the Conference on Great Lakes Research by subsidizing a portion of the costs of travel to and from the meeting. Student participation at the conference is integral to the atmosphere of the meeting as well as to students' education. The award is open to current IAGLR student members, in need of financial assistance to attend and present a paper or poster at the conference. Travel award funds are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The amount awarded to individual students will vary, and is contingent on distance traveled and funds available. Student members can apply when registering for the conference. To learn more, see details about the award.
