Two biologists attempt to capture a side view of image of a lake trout for morphometric analysis and a fin clip for genetic analysis prior to releasing the animal. This task was greatly complicated by the heavy seas. Winter begins to set in on Great Bear Lake in late August and the weather can be treacherous.

Three people take a running leap into the chilly waters of Lake Baikal. Russian scientists have been monitoring the lake for more than 60 years from a field station located in the small lakeside village of Bloshie Koty.
