War of 1812 Re-Enacted by IAGLR Hockey Players

Last May some sporting participants at the annual International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) Conference in Cornwall gathered to pit themselves against one another in a test of international collaboration: an ice hockey game of Team IAGLR USA versus Team IAGLR Canada to vie for the Defy Cup.  This was the fifth consecutive annual meeting of these two teams and they skated to a 5-5 tie – a befitting outcome reminiscent of the outcome of a war between a fledgling US and Great Britain that started 200 years earlier.
