Session: IJC Town Hall: Provide Your Valuable Perspective on Progress to Restore and Protect the Great Lakes (1)

Matthew Child, International Joint Commission, [email protected]

Abstract

Under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, the International Joint Commission (IJC) is responsible for assessing progress by the federal governments towards the Agreement’s objectives, including attaining swimmable, fishable and drinkable waters. This presentation will introduce the IJC’s assessment and consultation role and describe the activities that go into developing the IJC’s recommendations to governments for actions to further restore and protect the lakes.  The presentation will set the stage for the rest of the afternoon’s IJC sessions and help participants frame their input on science priorities and actions needed to address the lakes’ resource values and stressors.
