Abstract

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) works with its partners to deliver a comprehensive and integrative monitoring and research program on the water quality of Lake Simcoe. Monitoring began in the 1970s following public concern about the ecological health of the lake. The current program is designed to fulfill policies under the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan by assessing current and long-term changes in the water quality of the lake in response to cumulative environmental stressors. Water quality patterns from 1980 to 2016 will be presented, with a focus on how long-term monitoring and research inform adaptive management of the lake.
