Abstract

The Cooperative Science and Monitoring Initiative (CSMI) field year on Lake Michigan in 2015 was a considerable effort that included dozens of researchers. This initiative will result in a number of journal articles that will help inform further research, but how can we extend the impact of this multi-faceted collaboration beyond the ivory tower? With funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) is making a concerted effort to get the results out to a broader audience. Together with input from the CSMI scientists, IISG has developed products that share the story of Lake Michigan’s changing food web and related research results from the 2015 field year. IISG will present on a variety of outreach tools that target specific audiences including: a digital Story Map for interested public; a portable slideshow for use by resource managers; and infographics to better convey complex processes.
