Abstract

Understanding issues surrounding crude oil transportation in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River region has become a top priority for governmental agencies and other organizations. In June 2017, the Crude Move Symposium: Oil Transportation Infrastructure, Economics, Risk, Hazards and Lessons Learned was held in Cleveland, Ohio. It featured prominent speakers with diverse backgrounds, knowledge and expertise to discuss regional transportation, economics, hazards and risk, emergency response and lessons learned from other regions. Participants identified a series of next steps that were then ranked by attendees at the Great Lakes Restoration conference held in Buffalo, New York, in October 2017.

During this presentation, participants will hear about recent efforts to understand the issues, research priorities identified by regional stakeholders, and how establishing strong partnerships will be the key to better understand and prepare for risks associated with transportation of crude oil in the region.
