Abstract

The Center for Great Lakes Literacy (CGLL) engages researchers, teachers and stakeholders in a basin-wide program led by educators from the Sea Grant Great Lakes Network to improve Great Lakes education and enhance stewardship. Utilizing programs such as an innovative shipboard program aboard U.S. EPA’s R/V Lake Guardian, professional development experiences, scientist-educator linkages and community-school partnerships, CGLL is working to strengthen Great Lakes Literacy and place-based education.  With funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, CGLL has developed an active network of educators and scientists who are engaged in stewardship and restoration activities that span all of the Great Lakes.   The presentation will highlight the methodology used to build understanding about critical Great Lakes issues and concepts utilizing the Great Lakes Literacy Principles that are the foundation of CGLL’s programming. Learn about the Center and efforts designed to improve Great Lakes education and how you can join our basin-wide community of practice.
