Abstract

We summarize relevant information on the history of the Lake Ontario Atlantic Salmon in a 1966 report by Dymond & McKay and review studies since then. Discussed is the origin of and evidence for its uniqueness, conditions for its success, life history, evidence for early abundance and importance to settlers and natives, causes of decline and final extirpation, and reintroduction efforts and their successes.
